Thursday, all County and State Beach Parks on Hawai‘i Island reopened at 7:00 a.m.
Mayor Harry Kim’s COVID-19 Emergency Rule #12 allows beach and shoreline parks to reopen. However, all beachgoers must wear face coverings, physically distance and must keep gatherings to 10 people or less. The rule states that sports training and competitive play are allowed if those conditions are met.
Camping at all beach parks and shoreline parks remains prohibited.
The emergency rule also clarifies quarantine location.
“It makes clear that short-term vacation rentals (STVR), bed and breakfast (B&B) homes, or other paid or commercial lodging defined by the Hawai‘i Revised Statutes as “transient accommodations” cannot be designated as a quarantine location except for visiting essential and critical infrastructure workers, provided quarantine restrictions are followed,” Hawaii County Civil Defense stated.
New or intended residents also cannot designate a short-term vacation rental as a quarantine place. This address those wanting to use an STVR, B&B, etc. as quarantine location and staying longer than 30 days.
“Persons who have pre-arranged for long-term residential housing of 180 days or longer may utilize such housing as their designated quarantine location, provided that the full 14-day quarantine is served and not stopped early,” the rule explains.
