Police investigating double homicide in Kalihi

Honolulu police blocked off Auiki Street in Kalihi for several hours as part of the investigation on Sunday.

Beyond the yellow tape was a dark-colored sedan in the middle of the road with bullet holes visible in the driver’s side window.

“This morning just before 6 a.m. police were called to the area of Auiki Street on a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered two victims had been shot in the vehicle,” said Lt. Walter Calistro of the Honolulu Police Department.

According to Emergency Medical Services, a 29-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, a 33-year-old man, was shot in the chest. He was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died.

A security guard we spoke to at a nearby business says he heard four loud pops. About 20 seconds later, he heard two more. So he went outside to check it out. He saw the dark-colored car in the middle of the road and a man standing nearby.

“And as I got closer, I realized he was on the phone with a 911 operator and that’s when I heard someone was in the vehicle with blood on their head. And automatically it registered in my head. Yeah, somebody got shot,” said Vance Kuamoo-Kamai, a security guard at Servco Auto Parts Center.

Kuamoo-Kamai also saw a second vehicle in the area.

“I seen a white Mustang convertible speeding down maybe going a little over the speed limit. So I just figured it was somebody passing by. About 20 seconds later it made a U-turn and went speeding back even faster in that direction,” said Kuamoo-Kamai. “I didn’t get a good positive identification of the suspects in the car. But I know from what I saw, it looked like there was two people in there.”

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office has yet to identify the victims.

At this time, police do not have any suspects in custody.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police.
