Daniel Skelton
The Hawaii Department of Public Safety announced Monday morning that an inmate escaped at the Oahu Community Correctional Center in Kalihi.
They say Daniel Skelton, 23, was brought to OCCC as a probation violator awaiting trial for two felonies. OCCC is on a facility lockdown while staff investigate the escape
Skelton was last seen entering at bathroom at Annex 1 at the facility at around 5 a.m., according to Public Safety Director Ted Sakai. By 6 a.m., Sketon was nowhere to be found during the morning head count.
Annex 1 is an open setting with a secure fence around it, according to Sakai.
A preliminary investigation shows that Skelton climbed up into an air vent in the bathroom, got into the ceiling, and somehow made his way onto the roof of the building, says Sakai. From there, Sakai says he probably jumped to the ground and then scaled the fence. He may have used some of his clothing to protect him from the razor ribbon on the fence.
Skelton was brought to OCCC on June 4. His bail was set at $20,000.
Public safety officials say if you see Skelton, call 911.
