Navy offers teen summer camp scholarship program

Navy Child and Youth Programs are offering a summer camp scholarship program for youth ages 13-17 years old.

Four different camps are available, which include Sailing Camp, California Adventure, Panama City Water Adventures and European Backpacking Outdoor Adventure. Applicants must complete an application by May 14.

Sailing Camp is open to ages 13-15 and will run from July 6-12 at NSA Annapolis, Md. and Washington, D.C. Selected participants will enjoy a five-day basic keelboat and sailing fundamentals course, Washington, D.C. monument tour, U.S. Naval Academy tour and other fun events. They will also acquire a U.S. Sailing’s entry-level certification for basic keelboat.

The California Adventure is open to ages 14-17 and will run from July 6-18 at NAS Lemoore, San Francisco and Yosemite National Park, Calif. Youth can participate in activities such as hiking tours and rock climbing in Yosemite, tours of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, and a San Francisco Giants Major League Baseball game.

The Panama City Water Adventures will be open to youth ages 14-17 and run from July 13-26. Youth can earn PADI certifications by the Navy Dive School at NSA Panama City. They can also participate in local snorkeling, scalloping, deep-sea fishing, surf lessons and a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

The European Backpacking Outdoor Adventure is open to youth ages 15-17 and will run from July 14-27 in Barcelona, Spain; Chamonix, France; and Interlaken, Switzerland. While there, youth will be able to kayak, paddle board, snorkel, white water raft, rock/ice climb and hike, all while backpacking though Europe.
