U.S. Coast Guard responds to Sand Island fuel leak

(Via Hawaii News Now)

The U.S. Coast Guard was notified of a diesel fuel leak from a 1,000-gallon tank near Sand Island Parkway and Ulupono Street on Monday.

The leak was reported shortly before 2:50 a.m. near Rolloffs Hawaii, a local recycling and solid waste service company. A Rolloffs representative said fuel appeared to leak out of a hose or pipe and ran down the driveway, some even going into the storm drain. Rolloffs then shut off the hose which stopped the leak.

The Honolulu Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after to block the storm drain, preventing more fuel from entering.

The Coast Guard will determine if any diesel fuel went into the ocean.
