The DOE has started soliciting bids for a contractor to fix the damaged auditorium at Farrington High School.
A department spokesperson said demolition work and the initial stage of construction will begin this summer.
The auditorium has been off-limits since a section of roof collapsed in November 2012.
The rebuilt structure will have upgraded fire, safety, and electrical systems, plus better accessibility and ADA compliance.
Total cost is $12 million. The target date for completing the project is July 3, 2015.
